Memories by Ann Smith

One thing that will never die is that love of music that Mervyn engendered in so many, whether by performance, actual tuition or simply a sharing of his great passion and enthusiasm. Each one will be passing it on to others and so on, in perpetuity. It must be a Keeble talent, as Grandpa William Keeble played banjo and bones and sang comic songs from his days with the Old Bexley Minstrel Troupe. Your Grandpa ( Victor known as Pat) had a beautiful singing voice and my mother sang and played piano. Just last Thursday I stopped to look through some sheet music in a charity shop and, on the top of the pile, was a piece that always sat on the holder on my granny's piano in East Ham as it was her favourite. My mother played it for her and I often sat looking at it trying to work out the intervals between the notes on the stave and the way I might unlock that magic on the keys ( o for some lessons!) . Oh. The music? " The Bells of St. Mary's". I've never ever seen it in all those years between.
