I had not realised how ill Mervyn had become, as when we last spoke he was as cheerful and engaging as ever, happily sharing his thoughts on music and poetry which we both enjoyed. He was always so interesting, in-spite of the health problems, which he had to endure all the time. I admired him tremendously and if only there were more of like him in the world, it would be a much better place. I offer my sincere sympathy to the  "boys" he used to speak of with love and admiration and latterly with gratitude.
